Apple & Cinnamon Infused Vodka

The husband and I decided to get crafty in the kitchen by infusing our own vodka with fall some of our favourite fall flavours: apples and cinnamon. This is our first time, we don’t really know what we’re doing but with a little help from google, we basically came up with these tips:
- Chop up 6 red apples and add to a large glass container with a lid, along with 3 sticks of cinnamon
- Pour in 750 ml of mid-range vodka (we used smirnoff)
- Let steep in a dark place at room temperature for 3 to 4 days (and a little longer if dealing with more subtle flavours)
- Strain (some sites even recommend straining through a  coffee filter set in a mesh strainer)
- Drink ;-)
We’re stuck on step 3 for another 48 hours so check back on Wednesday when we’ll get to step 4 and 5 and post the results of our experiment!

  1. Vanilla infused sounds great. With thinking pumpkin spice next, with vanilla, ginger, cinnamon and cloves… did your vodka turn a funny color? Ours is kinda brown now from the cinnamon. Not the most apetizing but that doesn't stop me…

  2. Try adding a few drops of citric acid to the mix. This surpresses the apples from turning brown, and thus discolour the vodka that much.
The more you add, the nicer color. But add to much, and it influences the taste. Personally i just add a few drops of citric acid.
