Things to do: Bandol Wine Tasting at Weygandt Wines

Until maybe 8 years ago when she sold her house to move to Paris full time, my grandmother owned a home in the lovely mediterranean town of Bandol. When I was a kid, I loved staying there with my cousins, playing around the house or at the nearby plage de gallets (the “rocky” beach). Later on, I came to appreciate Bandol for some of its more grown up offerings: leisurely eating freshly caught loup de mer under the olive tree, listening to the cigales and drinking some of the best Rosé in the world, produced just a few kilometers away from my grandmother’s house.

So it is with a little nostalgia that I decided to write about Weygandt Wines‘ upcoming Bandol tasting. The tasting will take place on Saturday, May 15 from 1PM – 4PM and feature the wines from the Domaine la Bastide Blanche. In the line-up:

Domaine La Bastide Blanche Bandol 2006 – WS92

Domaine La Bastide Blanche Bandol Blanc 2008 – WS88

Domaine La Bastide Blanche Bandol Cuvée Estagnol 2006 – WS92

Domaine La Bastide Blanche Bandol Cuvée Fontanieu 2005

Domaine La Bastide Blanche Bandol Rosé 2008

Bandol wines, including Rosés, typically retail in the $20-$25 range, rendering them somewhat impopular with American wine importers and as a result they can be hard to find in local wine shop. I definitely encourage you to give this wonderful wine producing region a try, and not just on the basis of its undeniable sentimental value for me.
