Travel to Versailles in (Louis XVI) Style

Over the next two years, tourists and commuters alike are in for a real treat when traveling on the RER C line heading to and from the Chateau de Versailles. The SNCF, which operates the metro line, transformed a regular local train into a lavish mode of transporation inspired by the lavish interiors of the Sun King’s castle.

Right now, there’s only one metro train that’s been decorated with reproductions of interiors from the royal château of Versailles, but by the end of the year, there will be 4 more, transporting you not just to your destination but back in time as well, to Louis the XVI’s library, his apartment or Marie-Antoinette’s gardens.

This initiative almost makes me want to sit with a box of macarons on my lap (convineintly, thre’s a Ladurée at the Château de Versailles) and ride the RER all day long! If you’ve ever taken the RER, you know you want to get out of there as soon as possible normally…  it also makes me wish WMATA would read my blog and learn a thing or two from this initiative. What do you say metro riders… White House theme metro car? Capitol Dome ceiling?
