DC To Do List ~ 2015 Edition

to-do-list-padI don’t like comparing DC and Paris but both cities are pretty similar in that there are a TON of things to do and discover. In 2010, I started making a DC-to-do-list as part of my news year’s resolutions, identifying 10 places I hadn’t visited or activities I hadn’t done yet. So far it hasn’t been a resounding success as there are items you’ll see below that I’ve carried over since I started making these lists… but nontheless, let’s go for another round with these DC-bucket-list items for 2015.

1) I’m a bit ashamed to be writing this one down (again): take a tour of the Supreme Court (yes, this is back from my 2010 list, and no, I still haven’t crossed it off. Shame on me.)

2) Sip cocktails at the Columbia Room – this is a carry over from the 2013 list and sadly, the Columbia Room is closed right now. Hopefully, it will reopen above chef Jeremiah Langhorne’s forthcoming restaurant, the Dabney, in time for me to cross it off this year’s list. Otherwise it looks like it might have to be the first item I check off in 2016.

3) Another carry over from 2013: checking out if Little Serow lives up to the hype. I used to work around the corner from Little Serow so I have no excuses.
Arlington Cinema Drafthouse
4) This is the year I will catch a movie at the Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse!! If only so I can *finally* cross this as done!

5) When I was a student in Montreal, we used to spend Sunday afternoons soaking up the sun and the beats from the tams tams at Mont Royal. Washington’s got something similar every Sunday evening at Meridian Hill Park – and I have never experienced it.

6) Watch the planes take off and land at Reagan National Airport from Gravely Point. I have a poor record with activities involving Virginia so let’s hope I can make this one!!

7) Attend an event at the French Ambassador’s residence. It’s been the site of some of the city’s most lavish receptions, including the Vanity Fair White House Correspondents’ Dinner after party, before closing for renovation for the past two years. It’s slated to reopen soon and I simply must check it out!!

8) Some of the official events that would have taken place at the French Ambassador’s residence were moved to the Anderson House while the Kalorama mansion was undergoing renovations. And guess what? I’ve never visited to the Society of Cincinnati  on Embassy Row either… adding it to the list for 2015!

9) Try Ted’s Bulletin‘s famous pop-tarts (bonus: try one of the grown-up boozy floats too!)

10) Catch the Caps practice at the Kettler Iceplex before a home-game.

Bonus: cheer on the French maids during Cafe l’Enfant’s annual Bastille Day celebration.
