Hopefully, the weather will be nice because there will also be dueling piano shows, giant Jenga, beer pong and other backyard games as well as a great line-up of food trucks, with food available for purchase. Two of my current favourites, Arepa Zone and Borinquen Lunch Box will be there, as will Captain Cookie and the Milk Man with a very special Saint Patrick’s treat: an Irish cookie bomb made of two Guinness cocoa cookies with a Baileys filling. Cap Mac, on the other hand, is bringing out some corned beef mac and cheese! How good does that sound?
Pretty good right? Here are the details:
The event is March 14, 2015.
There are two sessions, one for day drinkers, from 1:30-4:30PM and one in the evening from 6-9PM.
You can buy tickets for either session right here ($44 per ticket.)
You can buy tickets or you can test your luck of the Irish right here and try to win 2 tickets from moi! (Please note the tickets are for the evening session from 6-9PM only.) To enter, just comment on this post with your favourite Gaelic (not Gallic) food! You can also find and like one of my #cloverfest posts on instagram (follow me here) to get additional entries. I’ll announce the winner on Wednesday, March 11. Bonne chance!
The White House is offering you a chance to help say “Bienvenue” to French president François Hollande when he lands on the South lawn ahead of France’s official State Visit next week. A State Visit that we all know by now he will be attending stag 😉
This is a pretty neat opportunity for social media users. I myself had the opportunity to attend one of the White House’s first TweetUp a few years ago during the holiday season and it was a great experience. Though, it didn’t involve my own president, so this would be considerably better…
The morning arrival ceremony will be pretty lavish and include a review of troops. It will be followed by a panel discussion with Administration officials where the #WHSocial attendees can ask all sorts of questions about what it’s like to put this sort of high profile diplomatic event together.
You have until Wednesday, February 5th at 6PM to submit your application right here.
Chevrolet is sponsoring a Chevy-style blogger dinner at Restaurant Nora, the nation’s first certified organic restaurant, on Thursday, August 15, 2013 (6:30pm to 8:30pm). Not only is Chevrolet providing transportation in the fuel efficient Chevy Equinox but they’re also footing the bill! And I’m inviting one lucky (local) reader to join me for the evening. If that sounds like something you’d like to do (and you live in the DMV area), there are two ways to let me know: by leaving a comment on this post or by emailing me at FrenchTwistDC@gmail.com. Just tell me about a road trip that resulted in one of your favourite food experiences. Just make sure I get your name and contact information (email or phone number) and you’ll be entered to win the opportunity to join me (and GregslistDC, DininginDC and Pamela’s Punch among others) at the blogger dinner in true Chevy-style! The contest begins today, July 29th and ends Monday, August 5th. The winner will be picked randomly and announced here on Wednesday, August 7, 2013.
My personal most recent favourite food experience involved a lovely road trip in a Chevrolet Cruze for brunch at the Ashby Inn in Paris… Virginia of course 😉
Any restaurant that features a champagne happy hour, hosts free French movie showings and has duck confit on its menu is likely to be high on my list of places I love to frequent. So I’m delighted to be able to offer two lucky readers the opportunity to wine champagne and dine at Napoleon Bistro and Lounge in Adams Morgan courtesy of CityEats.
CityEats was created in partnership with the Food Network and is a great way to explore a city’s restaurant scene (currently, D.C., New York, New Orleans and Philadelphia) and make dinner reservations all in one spot. To be eligible to win a dream meal at one of my favourite D.C. French bistro (a $100 value) just look through Napoleon Bistro and Lounge’s menu on CityEats’ website and let me know in the comment section what that dream meal there would be… I will pick a winner at random before the Vice-Presidential debate on Thursday (sorry…I’ve got politics on my mind these days), just in time to book a table via CityEats for a fabulous weekend brunch at Napoleon! And in case you’re wondering what mine would be, I would have to start with a kir royal and French onion soup, before moving on to the duck confit (it’s so rare to find duck confit on a menu in D.C.!!) with a side of potato gratin and wild mushrooms. If I were still hungry for dessert, I would also order the apple Tatin but if I weren’t, I would still end my dream meal on a sweet note with Napoleon’s famous Nutella espresso.
“lol. I haven’t been up until 4AM in a very long time.”
That’s the last text message I received and it seems pretty insignificant right? (no offense Cecile) It was quick, simple and took just a few seconds to send. But if Cecile had been driving when she sent it, it could have been distracting and even deadly. Texting, like drinking, is a form of distracted driving and according to the National Safety Council is responsible for more 100,000 car crashes a year. Young drivers, who tend to be avid texters, are particularly at risk. To raise awareness of the issue of texting and driving, AT&T is launching a campaign asking drivers not to text and drive and holding an “it can wait” pledge day on Wednesday, September 19th.
I’ve taken the pledge and committed not to text and drive and I’d like to encourage you to do the same. As an extra incentive, the local AT&T team has provided me with a Plantronics BackBeat GO – Bluetooth Stereo Headphones, a set of ultralight wireless stereo earbuds compatible with pretty much every mobile device, to giveaway to a reader who also commits not to text and drive. To take the pledge, visit AT&T’s “It Can Wait” website and commit to never text and drive. To be entered in the contest, just share your pledge on twitter and tag @FrenchTwistDC in your tweet. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #itcanwait. For example, you can tweet: “Like @FrenchTwistDC, I joined @ATT and pledge not to tweet & drive. Take the pledge too! #itcanwait” or “Texting & driving simply isn’t worth it! Pledge with me, @FrenchTwistDC & @ATT. RT “I pledge” #itcanwait.” The idea is to get the word out, leading up to the first ever national awareness day on September 19th, that texting and driving just isn’t worth the risk so there’s no limit to how many times you can enter. Every tweet encouraging others to take the pledge will enter you to win the Plantronics BackBeat GO – Bluetooth Stereo Headphones, as long as I am cc-ed on it somehow 😉 And if you need to be reminded that no text (or tweet) is worth a life, just watch AT&T’s “Don’t Text While Driving” documentary. It’s rather chilling.
I will select a winner at random at the end of Wednesday, September 19th. The headphones will be mailed out, so that means US readers only…
